Family members, community seek justice

The brother of the underaged house aide who died of burn injuries at the Colombo National Hospital, J.Thiruprasad yesterday said that his family members were not allowed to see her since she started working at the former Minister Rishard Bathiudeen’s residence.

He said that his sister left Colombo to work as domestic aide at the former Minister’s house in October last year and she never returned home to Dayagama since then.

“I came to Colombo with my parents to see my sister several times but we did not have the opportunity to see her,”he said.

Thiruprasad said that the fight for justice to his sister will continue until the mystery over her death is revealed.

“We will n6ot give up this fight until the culprits involved in abusing her sexually are bared and dealt with”, he said.

The girl's funeral was held at Dayagama public cemetery on Friday and Borella police and Nuwara Eliya police have initiated separate investigations into her death.

The Judicial Medical investigation into her body revealed that she was subject to sexual abuse for quite some time.

Police said that the under aged child in question had been brought to former Minister’s residence in Colombo 8 for a monthly salary of Rs.20,000 through a broker.

The victim born in November 2004, was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with severe burn injuries and she succumbed to her injuries on July 15.
