CMEV calls for more females in SPC on Electoral Reforms

CMEV National Coordinator Manjula Gajanayaka

The National Coordinator of the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) in a letter sent to Foreign Minister and Chairman of the 15 member Special Parliamentary Committee on Electoral reforms Dinesh Gunawardena has requested that the number of members be increased to 20 and the five new members should be female Parliamentarians.

Gajanayaka said that at present only one female member has been appointed to the 15 member Committee. He has pointed out that Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi who has been appointed to the Committee has more important matters at hand in containing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Copies of the letter have been forwarded to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake.
