The Batticaloa airport will be equipped with modern amenities and facilities for domestic passengers, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.
He has instructed authorities to draw up a suitable plan for this purpose including the list of basic facilities required for airline operations.The Minister made these remarks during an inspection tour to the Batticaloa domestic airport yesterday. He said it was necessary to convert the Batticaloa airport as a convenient location for tourists when developing the Eastern Province as a tourism hub in Sri Lanka.During The tenure of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the runaway of the airport was redeveloped and opened for domestic passengers. In 2020,723 domestic passengers have used the airport even during the pandemic situation.
