SLBC Chairman kept at Kandy checkpoint, seeks police inquiry

A Police investigation has been initiated into the inconvenience caused by a police officer when Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) Chairman Jayampathy Heenkenda travelled to Kandy from Colombo on duty yesterday May 6.

Heenkenda was on his way to Kandy from Colombo on official duties and his official vehicle was stopped by a Chief Inspector at the Kadugannawa roadblock and the Chairman was detained for around two hours.

Although he had clearly stated that he was the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, the police officer did not allow him to travel to Kandy for close to two hours.

He was unable to attend an event scheduled to be telecast live by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation with the Pallekelle Police that afternoon, he said. He has requested the Central Province Senior DIG to conduct a formal inquiry into the matter.
