Justice Minister visits flood affected areas

Justice Minister Ali Sabry, PC, visited the areas of Kolonnawa and Wellampitiya who were displaced by the floods due to inclement weather.

The Minister visited the Kolonnawa Raja Maha Viharaya and met with the Chief Incumbent of the Kolonnawa Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Kolonnawa Dhammika Thero, the Maha Sangha and local political representatives in the area to discuss how relief should be provided to the displaced people.

The Minister visited the IDP camp at the Wellampitiya Science Development College, which has been set up temporarily for the displaced people, and inquired about the needs of the people there.

The Minister then visited the Displaced Center at the Galwana Rajamaha Viharasthanaya in Wellampitiya and inquired about the needs of the displaced people in Wellampitiya and Kolonnawa areas.

The Minister also visited the Jumma Mosque in Kolonnawa and inquired about the needs of the Muslim community affected by the floods.

The discussions focused on providing food to the people displaced by the floods, as well as how to clean public places, including flooded houses, once the flood recede, and how to deal with disasters in the face of the COVID-19 epidemic health guidelines.

The Minister pointed out that as these areas face floods several times a year, long term solutions need to be found.

Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal Mohamed Uwais, Chairman of the Kotikawatta Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha Rangajeewa Jayasinghe, Deputy Chairman Indunil Jagath Kumara, Leader of the Opposition Saliya Wickramasinghe, Former Member of the Provincial Council Asoka Lankathilake, Members of the Pradeshiya Sabha, Government Officials and others were present at the occasion.
