Who is permitted to travel during 'travel restrictions' ?

Persons engaged in essential services such as health, water, electricity, telecommunication, media, harbor, airport, and private security services, are allowed to travel for duty using their official Identity Card and they must confirm that their services are required within the days of travel restrictions, said the Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.

He said that addressing a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information today.

He also further said, people will be permitted to travel to hospitals for treatment or any emergency, while they will also be allowed to purchase required medicine. He also noted that the ID provision is not valid within this travel restriction period.

DIG Ajith Rohana noted that travel restrictions will be eased for 19 hours on Tuesday but said that the ban on inter provincial travel will remain in place. He further highlighted that non-essential travel will remain banned and urged people not to go on trips or visit families.

Accordingly, cooked food deliveries,bakeries, restaurants, supermarkets, or shops that provide dry food items are allowed to make deliveries using their own delivery methods, the DIG said. However, no customers are allowed to visit any of these establishments during the travel restriction period.

He further stated that no restrictions have been imposed on transporting food items, fish stocks, meat, vegetables and eggs during the period. A special circulation regarding this has already been issued to all police stations, He added.

DIG Ajith Rohana also stated that construction sites will be permitted to operate, while the manufacturing sector can also function.

The DIG further said that persons engaged in agriculture at their own homes, lands, or paddy fields are also allowed to carry on their activities..
