WhatsApp privacy policy to affect users

WhatsApp users have to decide on whether to accept WhatsApp’s privacy policy update 2021 or leave the platform within the next few weeks after reaching its extended deadline of May 15.

WhatsApp introduced its new privacy policy update - 2021 in January this year making it compulsory for users to accept them before February 8. However the deadline was extended to May 15 based on user objection.

If the users do not accept the new privacy policy, they will slowly lose access to most of the features from today and will have to experience limited functionality of the app after a few weeks.

Recently, WhatsApp had told the Delhi High Court that the company is not forcing any user to accept the policy and they are free to leave the platform otherwise.

Under the limited functionality, users will not be able to access their WhatsApp chat list and they will only be able to answer or make incoming voice or video calls. Later, they will lose access to make or receive incoming calls. The messaging service will also stop sending messages and calls to the phone.

However, users have two options if they do not accept this update. They will have to permanently delete their WhatsApp accounts or to switch to another chatting platform such as Telegram and Signal.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp says it takes up to 90 days to delete WhatsApp information.
