Strong winds forecast during next few days

A low-pressure area has formed over southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep, the Disaster Management Centre said.

It is very likely to concentrate into a depression during next 48 hours. The system is likely to move nearly north-northwestwards towards Gujarat and Pakistan coast around 18th May evening.

Under the influence of the system, rough seas and strong winds (50-60 kmph), gusting up to 70-80 kmph can be expected over the southeast Arabian sea area during next few days.

Heavy showers or thundershowers and rough seas associated with sudden increase of wind speed up to 55-60 kmph are likely in deep and shallow see areas from Kankasanturai to Hambanthota via Mannar, Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours.

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the southeast Arabian sea area from May 14 until further notice.

Those who are in sea regions are advised to return to coasts or moved safer areas as soon as possible. Fishing and naval communities are in the deep and shallow see areas from Kankasanturai to Hambanthota via Mannar, Colombo and Galle, be vigilant in this regard. The fishing and naval communities are requested to be attentive regarding future forecasts in this regard.
