Sri Lankan maid’s remains brought back

The remains of a Sri Lankan maid who was murdered in Kuwait were brought to Sri Lanka on Sunday morning.

Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said the body of the deceased woman had arrived in Sri Lanka around 8.30 on Sunday morning on board a Qatar Airways flight.

“The Katunayake Police had commenced investigations regarding the remains of the woman and it had been revealed that the woman, who is a resident of Mahawa had left for Kuwait in 2019 for employment as a housemaid.”

She had been hacked to death by an Ethiopian maid on April 13, 2021.

The Magisterial inquiry was conducted by the Negombo Magistrate on Sunday, while the autopsy was conducted by the Judicial Medical Officer of the Negombo Hospital yesterday.

The Katunayake Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.
