Public urged to celebrate Vesak from home

The Department of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs urges the public to celebrate Vesak from home with their families, giving priority to Prathipaththi Puja (Practice of Dhamma), taking into account the health risks.

Although the State Vesak festival has been cancelled with the spread of the Coronavirus, the department has requested that all cities, government institutions, private institutions and houses be decorated for Vesak.

Department of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Secretary Prof. Kapila Gunawardena stated that all development activities in the Northern Province focusing on the Jaffna District in parallel to the Vesak festival will be implemented in stages in the community care and environmental programmes prepared for low income families and school children.

A symbolic short programme will be held at the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple in accordance with health instructions, the Secretary said.
