The salaries of public sector employees for the month of May will be paid four days in advance on Friday (21), considering the COVID-19 situation in the country, Finance Ministry Secretary S. R. Attygalle said.
The pay day for the public sector is usually on the 25th of each month. However, considering that travel restrictions are being imposed and that the April salary was paid prior to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the Government has decided to advance the salary of public servants to May 21.
Attygalle said the relevant Circular had already been issued by the Treasury Operations Department of the Finance Ministry on the direction of Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
