Landslide warning issued

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a Level 3 (Red) landslide early warning for parts of Nuwara-Eliya and Ratnapura Districts. They are:

1. Nuwara-Eliya District - Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

2. Ratnapura District - Ratnapura, Kuruwita and Eheliyagoda Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

■. Level 2 (Amber) landslide warning has been issued for parts of Kegalle, Nuwara-eliya and Ratnapura. They are:

1. Kegalle District - Yatiyanthota, Aranayaka, Deraniyagala, Dehiowita and Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

2. Nuwara-Eliya District - Nuwara Eliya and Kotmale Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

3. Ratnapura District - Balangoda, Nivithigala, Imbulpe, Kiriella, Kalawana, Ayagama, Elapatha and Pelmadulla Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

■. Level 1 (yellow) landslide warning has been issued for parts of Galle, Kalutara, Kegalle, Kandy, Ratnapura and Nuwara-Eliya districts. They are :

1. Galle District - Neluwa Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD) and surrounding areas.

2. Kalutara District - Ingiriya, Palindanuwara, Agalawatta, Walallawita, Mathugama, Dodangoda and Bulathsinhala Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

3. Kegalle District - Galigamuwa, Kegalle, Ruwanwella and Warakapola Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

4. Kandy District - Ganga Ihala Korale, Pasbage Korale, Udunuwara, Pathahewaheta, Yatinuwara, Udapalatha and Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

5. Ratnapura District - Godakawela, Weligepola, Openayake, Kahawatta and Kolonna Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

NBRO has warned that should residents see development of cracks, ground subsidence, slanting of trees, cracks on floors built on slopes, sudden appearance of springs or muddy water should alert the authorities.
