‘Independent doctors should not be made political victims by TUs’

Independent doctors who do not stand with Trade Unions should not be made political victims, President of the Interim Medical Services Joint Front M.G. Upul Rohana stated.

Rohana made this observation while commenting on the disciplinary inquiry conducted on Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa on an issue regarding raising awareness of the public about the present pandemic.

The inquiry division of the Health Ministry has requested Dr. Chamal to give a statement concerning the issue. He has requested 14 days’ time to make this statement and it has been accordingly granted.

“Although our union has no  objection to complying with existing administrative rules and regulations, we believe that a veteran media person such as Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, who has been involved in the public health awareness process for a long time, should be saved from certain unions that want to control independent professionals,” Rohana added.
