Adulterated coconut oil re-exported

Measures have been taken to re-export the stocks of imported coconut oil containing Carcinogenic properties, Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said.

He was responding to MP Mohammed Muzammil in Parliament yesterday during the Question Round for Oral Responses.

The Minister said that the stock of adulterated coconut oil had not entered the local market on any instance.

He said that focus has been placed on importing raw materials such as copra to produce coconut oil locally. He said that the Government is implementing a streamlined mechanism to enhance the local coconut oil industry.

From 2015 to 2019, Rs. 6,094 million had been spent on importing coconut oil to Sri Lanka
