Virus outbreak can be controlled – State Minister

The current Coronavirus outbreak can be controlled and the health services are in the position to handle all the cases successfully, Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance,

Self-Employment and Business Development State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said yesterday.

The Government has no intention of opting for harsh lockdowns but it is ready to take stern action to control the pandemic situation in the future.

He added that new treatment centres to treat COVID-19 infected people will be gradually increased in the future.

Addressing a media briefing held in Medawachchiya yesterday, he said the Opposition is only engaged only in criticism when the Government is taking broad, fast action to reduce the spread of COVID. We have to govern the country with an Opposition that nature. But, we urge them not to confine themselves to criticism, but to make suggestions to improve our governance, especially coming up with the proposals to mitigate the pandemic.

The main reason for the recent surge in COVID 19 cases in the country is the movement of the people around the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. People neglected to follow health guidelines during this period. However, we are in a position of imposing tough rules to prevent the spread of pandemic further,” the State Minister said.
