Stern action is to be taken against those uploading fake news on social media platforms, Public Security Minister Admiral (Retd.) Sarath Weerasekara said.
Speaking to the media after attending an event held in Mulleriyawa on Thursday, the minister said instances of fake news on social media would be investigated.
He added that the freedom of expression guaranteed in the Constitution must not be abused. Weerasekara said the Government would monitor fake news on social media platforms.
