Special operation to arrest drunk drivers

A special operation to arrest drunk drivers will be conducted islandwide with effect from today, said the Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.

Since the rate of motor accidents and consequent deaths are on the rise, the Police Department has deployed around 8,500 police officers to arrest drunk drivers, who are responsible for most road accidents in the country.

The Police Department has warned all drivers not to drive under the influence of liquor as stern legal action would be taken against them.
