Rs.1 m reward for tips on fraudster

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has approved a reward of Rs. 1 million for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who is said to have been involved in a number of frauds in various parts of the country and is now absconding.

The Crimes and Organized Crime Division has commenced an investigation to arrest the suspect who has been hiding in various parts of the country after fraudulently obtaining luxury cars and cash worth over Rs. 50 million.

Police investigations have revealed that the suspect had impersonated a doctor, an engineer, a teacher and a businessman.

The suspect while posing as a doctor had sold a stolen vehicle for Rs. 16.5 million and fraudulently obtained a vehicle worth Rs. 1,550,000 with forged signatures.

He is also accused of breach of trust in a vehicle purchased from a finance company, fraudulently obtaining a car worth Rs. 2.8 million and stealing a van worth Rs. 3 million, among other crimes.

The suspect is identified as Rafiq Mohamed Farooq and his National Identity Card number is 761350446V.

Information about the suspect can be provided to the DIG Crime and Organized Crime Division 0718592604 and the DIG Crime and Organized Crime District Office 0112685958. The confidentiality of informants will be maintained.
