Private shops providing relief packs should be appreciated

Private sector shops providing the public with relief packs on competitive prices with Lanka Sathosa should be appreciated, Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said.

He said that however, some of the food items included in those packs were of both lower quality and in lower quantities. The minister said so while speaking to the media at the Trade Ministry in Colombo, yesterday.

Commenting on a statement made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa on the relief packs provided by Lanka Sathosa for the festive season, the minister said they include quality food bearing the SLS seal.

Lanka Sathosa’s relief pack, which contains 12 essential items, will be available at all Sathosa outlets throughout this month. Only one pack is to be issued per person, but requests for more packs made by welfare associations of government institutions would be open for consideration.

All Lanka Sathosa outlets islandwide will be closed for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year only on April 14 and 15.
