Opposition daydreaming about defeating Govt. - Lokuge

The strength of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will be apparent to all those daydreamers in the Opposition who are trying all the tricks in the book to defeat the Government, said Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge yesterday.

A Colombo District Opposition Parliamentarian is sadly mistaken if he thinks that the Government’s tenure is short lived.

Minister Lokuge was speaking at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) media briefing held at Water's Edge Hotel in Battaramulla.

"When we hold the Provincial Council elections, our strength will become apparent," Minister Lokuge said. "We will contest the Provincial Council elections as the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. Our victory will open everyone’s eyes."

He added that the SLPP politicians have a close relationship with the working class. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa are working tirelessly to solve the people's problems.

"We have a very close relationship with the Working Class," the Minister said. "Similarly, assistance is being provided for self-employed persons across the country. In certain places problems may arise due to various misunderstandings. But, we can overcome all these problems when we work as a team in unison."

He added the SLPP cannot forget what happened in 2015. Lies were spread among the people. They talked about golden horses.

"However, the people realized that politicians were taken into custody based only on political revenge," Minister Lokuge said. "At the end when the recordings of Parliamentarian Ranjan were released, all saw how derogatory they were to the judiciary as well."

He added the Good Governance Government paid scant respect to the well-being of Government employees. Our Government is different and we follow a people-friendly policy. "We have handed over everything to the Police Department, Intelligence Division and the Attorney General to investigate various crimes and to act accordingly," the Minister said.

"We did not come to power as a Government to take political revenge. We came to create a conducive atmosphere for the people to live as one united Sri Lankan family and we will achieve this goal," Minister Lokuge said.
