Legal action against 8,957 motorcyclists

A total of 8,957 individuals who were involved in various motor traffic offences were detected in an island-wide operation to minimize motorcycle accidents during the 48-hours between March 31 to April 1 .

295 motorcycles were taken into police custody during the operations carried out from March 31 to April 1, said the Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana .

Meanwhile, 85 motorcyclist who were involved in reckless riding, 80 for over-speeding and 1,298 riders who were without valid riding licenses and safety helmets have been prosecuted.
