Construction of the railway line from Kurunegala to Habarana will begin from December 2022, Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge told Parliament yesterday (5).
Preliminary work is underway to construct the 84 km railway line from Kurunegala to Habarana through Dambulla and the project is scheduled to commence from December 2022 after land is acquired, Minister Lokuge said. Lokuge was responding to a question raised by MP Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon during the oral questions round. Minister Lokuge stated that Rs.78.85 billion has been allocated for this project already and the necessary financial allocations have been made for the lands to be acquired for the above project as well. He further stated that the government is ready to discuss any issues that may arise regarding this project.
