Every possible step has been taken to create drug free society – State Minister

The Government has taken every step possible to create a drug-free society, Backward Rural Areas Development and Promotion of Domestic Animal Husbandry and Minor Economic Crop Cultivation State Minister Sathasivam Viyalendran said.

He was addressing the gathering after opening on Monday the newly built Happy Kids Fun World - A modern children’s park in Kalliankadu, Batticaloa – which was built by Ancheneya Group of Company.

The State Minister said that the Government is taking strict action against child abuse and drug peddlers. “Now instances of child abuse have declined and the number of drug users has also been reduced. Arrests are being made daily because the President and the Prime Minister are very keen on creating a drug-free country,” the State Minister said.

“A number of children’s parks and sports grounds in the East and North have been damaged during the 30-year conflict. The regions boast potential sportspersons but they did not have facilities to showcase their talents. The President through the Sports Ministry and the Education Development Department is taking meaningful steps to encourage sports activities in these areas,” the State Minister said.

Batticaloa Mayor Thiagaraja Saravanapavan, Government Agent K.Karunagaran, Manmunai North Divisional Secretary V.Vasudevan, Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal (TMVP) General Secretary S.Jeyaraj and Batticaloa Traders’ Association President M.Selvaraja were present.
