A four-month-old baby elephant has been caught in a fishing net in a pond in Kiribawa yesterday.
It was rescued alive by a persons from the area who informed about it to the Kiribawa Wildlife Department.
An official of the Wildlife Department said that the rescued elephant was handed over to the Nikawaratiya Veterinary Hospital by the Kiribawa Wildlife Department.
He added that the elephant will be taken to the Udawalawe Elephant Sanctuary.
