Two arrested for promoting extremism, terrorism

The Terrorism Investigation Department (TID) yesterday have arrested two individuals for allegedly promoting extremist ideologies in the country and collecting funds for terrorist activities.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the 46-year-old had been deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on December 05 last year and he had been engaged in collecting funds for terrorist activities.

Meanwhile, the other 49-year-old suspect was arrested at Kattankudy in Batticaloa and he was identified as a keen follower of Zahran Hashim,the mastermind of Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The suspect had promoted Wahhabism and extremist ideologies through Facebook, said the Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana.

Further investigations are being conducted by the TID regarding both suspects.
