Severe lightning warning issued

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center has issued a warning of sever lightening to several provinces, which is valid until 10:30 p.m. today (March 7).

According to the warning, “Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over most parts of the island, after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western and Western provinces.".

It further stated that, “There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.”
