India temporarily halts AstraZeneca vaccine exports

India has put a temporary hold on all major exports of the AstraZeneca coronavirus shot made by the Serum Institute of India (SII), the world's biggest vaccine-maker, to meet domestic demand as infections rise, two sources said.

Sri Lanka is one the countries that are likely to be affected due to the COVAX vaccine facility led by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Sri Lanka is expected to receive another consignment of 500,000 doses of vaccines since Sri Lanka had already placed the order for the purchase, said the State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation, Prof. Channa Jayasumana.
