CCD questions Rajitha, Chathura over abduction claims

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Rajitha Senaratne and his son Chathura Senaratne arrived at the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) yesterday morning in response to being summoned to give statements regarding their alleged involvement with regard to a false complaint made by a web journalist who claimed to have been abducted.

Web journalist Sujeewa Gamage made a complaint to the Police saying that he was abducted and assaulted on March 10.

The CCD had recorded the statements of MP Rajitha and his son Chathura for around five hours yesterday.

Subsequent to a lengthy investigation by the CCD, the complaint made by the 62-year-old journalist of the ‘Siyarata’ newspaper was proven to be false, police said.

As investigations had revealed that the journalist involved had gone to an office run by Chathura Senaratne, the son of MP Rajitha Senaratne in Thimbirigasyaya. There he had spent almost 3 ½ hours. Information has also been obtained by the police that during his time there, the journalist had also met with MP Rajitha Senaratne. He had then been admitted to the National Hospital.

The Police Spokesman said that thereafter, the journalist had confessed that he had filed a false complaint over his alleged abduction.

Following this, the CCD took steps to record statements from Rajitha and Chathura Senaratne in connection to the alleged abduction of the journalist.
