The lorry driver who was assaulted by the constable attached to the Maharagama Police was released on bail by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court yesterday. However, the constable who assaulted him in Pannipitiya was remanded until April 5.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said further action would be taken against the Police Constable under the Penal Code and the Police Ordinance. He said an investigation has commenced into the incident under the purview of a Senior Superintendent of Police of the Nugegoda Division. The lorry driver had knocked down the Maharagama Police Traffic Branch OIC and he is receiving treatment at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital. The license of the lorry driver has also been suspended.
