170 new houses with facilities for estate families

A project to provide free housing to needy families living in line rooms in plantation areas will be held at the Malimboda Tea Estate in Deraniyagala today.

Under this new programme 170 new estate houses will be constructed at the Malimboda Estate in Deraniyagala.

The new housing units will be built on land owned by the Bogawantalawa Plantation Company. These estate housing projects are included in the housing project programme implemented in line with the President’s “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” policy statement.

170 estate families who have been living without any basic facilities for a long time will have the opportunity to become the owners of new houses without any payment. The new house will have two floors. Built in such a way that one house is facing away from another, this housing unit consists of eight houses. Each house under construction will have water, electricity and sanitation facilities and each house will have two bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room.The housing project which commences today (8) is expected to be completed within a year. The Malimbada Estate new estate housing project will cost Rs. 510 million. The contractor is the State Engineering Corporation, an experienced public sector construction company.
