Tremor off Ampara

An earth tremor with a magnitude of 4 on the Richter Scale reported from seas off Ampara with the epicentre at 28km from Paanama yesterday morning, a Spokesperson of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) Seismic Data and Tsunami Alert Centre said.

He told the Daily News that the tremor was reported 10km deep in the sea and it was recorded at the Pallekele, Hakmana, Buddangala and Mahakanadarawa Seismic Stations.

It was experienced around 11.14am. He said no tsunami alert was issued as there was no such risk.

A series of tremors reported in Kandy, Badulla and Nuwara Eliya and surrounding areas over the past few months.

The GSMB is currently investigating the causes of recent tremors in and around the country.
