‘Tamil National Assembly’ to be formed

An organization called the ‘Tamil National Assembly’ consisting of Tamil political parties, religious leaders and intellectuals is to be formed on Friday (26) with the aim of promoting and protecting the rights of the Tamil people. EPRLF leader Suresh Premachandran told the media yesterday that the new organization will be formed in Vavuniya on Friday and it will bring all Tamil political parties working for the Tamil people under one roof in addition to religious leaders and intellectuals.

He was speaking after a preliminary discussion in Jaffna to establish the organization.

Representatives of 10 Tamil political parties were present at the discussion but representatives of the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) led by Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam did not attend.

Former Member of Parliament Suresh Premachandran said that the organisation aims to protect and promote the rights of the Tamil people and that the first meeting of the new organisation will be held in Jaffna on the February 28 after the establishment of the organization on February 26.
