Sri Lanka’s 73rd Independence Day Celebration was organised by the Honorary Consulate for Sri Lanka to the Lao PDR under the guidance and the leadership of Madame Manilay Thiphalansy who is the first-ever Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka to the Lao PDR, and head of Chancery Damith Aluge. The Sri Lankan community in Laos, Laotians, business owners, foreign nationals and other Honorary Consuls participated in the event. The event was held at the office of Honorary Consulate, located at Sawang village, Chanthabouly district, Vientiane Capital. The celebration began with the hoisting of the National Flag to the sounds of ‘Magul Bera’. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem of Sri Lanka. Two minutes silence was also observed to commemorate War Heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.
