President launches ‘Kekulu Tharu Udanaya’ programme for Grade One students

The National Tree Planting Programme for children ‘Kekulu Tharu Udanaya’ was launched under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Atabage Wimaladharma National School in Gampola today.

This programme is aimed at planting nearly 350,000 trees a year through the new Grade One entrants to all schools islandwide. It is expected to achieve a target of planting 1.7 million trees in the next five years.

The Grade One students will be provided the saplings of jak, breadfruit, coconut, mango or other plants based on the space availability in their home gardens.
