Expatriate workers being brought fast - Minister

Co-Cabinet Spokesman, Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday denied allegations against the government which claim that the government is not listening to the appeals by Sri Lankan expatriates.

Speaking at this week's Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Minister Rambukwella said that around 85,183 expatriates have already been brought to Sri Lanka and around 1,113 expatriates had been brought to Sri Lanka in 15 aircraft only on February 7 that included 70 from Saudi Arabia, 97 from the Maldives, 212 from the United Kingdom, 516 from the United Arab Emirates, 19 from Italy and 105 from Singapore.

Another 468 expatriates were brought to the country on February 8 that included 36 from the United Arab Emirates, 76 from Saudi Arabia, 40 from India, 126 from Qatar and 150 from Kuwait.

He further stated that 44,613 of them were quarantined in Quarantine Centres at the expense of the government.
