Plans are afoot to use the railways to transport agricultural produce.

The Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (08) that this programme will be implemented with the aim of reducing the time and cost involved in the distribution of vegetables, fruits and fertilizers islandwide.

Several discussions have been held between the railway authorities and the Ministry of Agriculture in this regard.
