Private bus strike put off

The private bus operators strike scheduled to begin from midnight today by all private bus associations has been put off pending solutions.

This is following discussions held with Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services and Train Compartments and Motor Car Industry State Minister Dilum Amunugama yesterday. Lanka Private Bus Owenr’s Association President Gemunu Wijeratne said all Bus Associations agreed to give one week’s time to provide solutions to the problems of the private bus industry. “However, if the authorities are failed to provide solutions, the planned strike will occur from next week,”he added. The private bus owners are demanding concessionary loans,concessions to pay leasing facilities, COVID-19 insurance cover for workers among other matters.
