More rain heading towards North, East- Meteorology Department

Heavy rains about 100mm can be expected at some places in the Eastern and Northern provinces and in the Matale and Polonnaruwa districts, the Meteorology Department said.

Showers or thundershowers may occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces and in the Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts. Heavy Showers or thundershowers may occur at a several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m., they added.

Fairly heavy falls about 75mm can be expected in some places in the Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Kalutara District. Misty conditions can be expected in the Western, Central, and Sabaragamuwa provinces during the morning.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Meanwhile, the sea areas extending from Colombo to Kankesanthurai via Puttalam, as well as the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pothuvil, can be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas around the island would be moderate.
