Committee to look into spread of unknown cattle viral disease

The Ministry of State for Livestock, Farm Promotion and Dairy and Egg Industries has appointed a seven-member Committee headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of State to look into the spread of an unknown viral disease among cattle across the country.

The Committee has been tasked to report within a week to the State Minister in charge of the subject.

The Report should contain recommendations on the spread of the disease, immediate action to be taken to control it, as well as recommendations on how to educate dairy farmers at the provincial level to prevent the recurrence of the disease and how to implement those recommendations.

The Committee includes Secretary to the Ministry of State S.Senanayake, Director General of the Department of Animal Production and Health Dr. Ranjani Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary Dr. Niroshan Gamage (Acting), Dr. Pradeep Kumarawadu on Animal Epidemiology and North Western Province Department of Animal Production and Health , North Central and Northern Provincial Directors.
