Commemoration of 73rd National Independence Day Discussed

A preparatory co-ordinating conference for arrangements on the forthcoming commemoration of the 73rd National Independence Day on 4 February 2021 got underway at the Independence Square last morning, headed by General (Retd) Kamal Gunarathne, Secretary Defence.

Secretaries to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Council, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head, NOCPCO, Navy and Air Force Commanders, Inspector General of Police, state officials, Media heads and relevant contributors to the event were associated with the discussion.   

All stakeholders discussed at length how this national commemoration could be conducted in line with health procedures and the minimum number of participants due to COVID-19 epidemic. The composition of the parade, participation of tri service troops, Civil Defence Service troops and School students was also taken up for review and discussion.
