Three Tamil political parties to hold talks on presenting UNHRC resolution

Three major political parties in the North have begun discussions to present a resolution on behalf of their constituents at the 46th UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) meeting in Geneva next March.

Parliamentarian M.A Sumanthiran on behalf of the Tamil National Alliance, former Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneswaran on behalf of the Tamil Makkal Thesiya Kuttani and Parliamentarian Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam on behalf of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress have already discussed the matter. It has also been decided to draft the resolution under their leadership.

Representatives of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) say that in drafting the resolution, priority will be given to reactivating resolutions that have not yet been implemented in the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution on human rights in Sri Lanka over the past five years.

However, it has not yet been decided whether the representatives of these political parties will participate in the Geneva Human Rights Council meeting.
