Suspect arrested for selling new born babies

An individual has been arrested for engaging in a racket of selling newborn babies after reaching to an agreement with pregnant mothers, Police said.

The 47-years-old suspect was arrested following a lengthy investigation carried out by the Women and Child Bureau of Sri Lanka Police. The suspect was arrested today in Ukuwela, Matale.

The suspect had been engaged in the racket by releasing advertisements on the internet and the racket had been taken place at two locations in the Moratuwa area, Police further said.

It has been revealed that this person had sold nearly 30 children so far.

Police further stated that 12 pregnant women who were involved in this have been identified.
