Maj. Gen. Dematanpitiya Army Chief of Staff

Sri Lanka Signal Corps Colonel Commandant Maj. Gen. Prabhath Dematanpitiya assumed office as the 56th Chief of Staff of the Army at the Army Headquarters on Wednesday.

He joined the Army as an Officer Cadet on October 7, 1985 and was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant on July 24, 1986.

With 35 years of service in the Army, he has held Command, Staff and Instructional appointments and is now Army Wushu Committee Chairman.

Maj. Gen. Dematanpitiya is a graduate from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) Sapugaskanda and has earned MSc from the National Defence University, Pakistan and MBA from the Kotelawala Defence University.

He was serving as the DSCSC Commandant before he took over the new appointment.
