I wrote notes on former IGP’s instructions - Chief Inspector

During his tenure attached to the IGP's Secretariat Office, he wrote notes only on the instructions of the former IGP and never took notes at his discretion, Chief Inspector Suneth Chandika Priyadarshana said.

He was testifying yesterday (11) before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing the Easter Sunday terror attacks on April 21, 2019.

He further said that all the letters received by the IGP's Secretariat have been scanned according to a modern technology and that no one could make such a statement.

During the April 21 attack, Chief Inspector Suneth Priyadarshana served as the head of the Bureau, which sent letters to the S4 Division, State Intelligence Division of the Police Secretariat and several other divisions including the Police Terrorism Investigation Division.

A judge of the Commission asked that there was an allegation that he had misused the powers of the IGP during his tenure in office under former IGP Pujith Jayasundara.

Responding to this, Chief Inspector Suneth Priyadarshana said that he had never abused the powers of the head of his institution, but he was subjected to such an allegation by higher officials.

"During my tenure in the IGP's office, there have been instances where certain senior officers had been transferred. In such cases, some top officials asked me about it, but I could not divulge any information, because I had to protect that confidentiality. When I tried to protect such secrecy, some high ranking officers got angry. They have narrow minded attitudes. In such situations, the rest of my tenure in the Police force will affect me as well,” said Chief Inspector Suneth Priyadarshana.

When asked by a Commission judge whether he was aware of the reason for the sudden transfer of Senior DIG Ranmal Kodithuwakku and another senior officer attached to the IGP's office, Chief Inspector Suneth Priyadarshana said in response that although he was aware of such a transfer, he did not know the exact reason for it.
