Government to give appointments to 4,000 teacher trainees

The Government has decided to give appointments to 4,000 teacher trainees who have passed out from National Colleges of Education last year.

This is with the intention of solving the severe teacher shortage at remote provincial schools countrywide. The new teacher appointments would be effected early next year with the outset of the first academic school term of the year.

The Education Ministry Secretary in a Circular has instructed Principals to send in their teacher reqirement numbers to the Ministry of Education, Senior Assistant Provincial Director of Education J.Jayaweera told the media in Kurunegala yesterday.
