Errant DMT officers to be transferred

The Government has decided to transfer a number of officials attached to the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) who have been allegedly engaged in bribery and corruption for long time at the DMT in Narahenpita, said Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services and Train Compartments State Minister Dilum Amunugama yesterday.

These officials were given nearly one year to do their duties in accordance with the law and had been instructed to desist from engaging in malpractices on several occasions.

But, they have failed to heed these warnings. Therefore, we have decided to transfer these officers, Amunugama said.

“There are several false news items being circulated on social media that 600 DMT officers are to be transferred. There are only 600 officers working at the DMT and we do not want to transfer all of them,” he added.

“A systematic procedure will be formulated to implement these transfers which also include DMT regional offices as well,” he said.
