COVID-19 positive cases - 28,203, Recoveries - 20,804, Deaths - 140

The total number of COVID-19 positive patients reported in the country exceeded the 28,000 mark yesterday, states the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry. Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases currently stands at 28,203.

Of this amount, 20,804 of them have recovered while 7,259 patients remain in hospitals. Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated that the total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from the Minuwangoda garment factory and Peliyagoda Fish Market clusters stands at 24,318. Meanwhile, 17,052 fully-recovered COVID-19 patients from both the Minuwangoda (3,059) and the Peliyagoda Fish Market (21,259) clusters have been discharged from hospitals. The total number of COVID-19 related fatalities has increased to 140 with three deaths reported from the Maggona, Kahathuduwa and Kotte areas.

By yesterday morning (7), Flight QR 668 from Qatar with 50 passengers and Flight UL 1264 from the UAE with 52 passengers arrived in Colombo. Within yesterday (7), Flight UL 102 from the Maldives with 44 passengers and UL 607 from Pakistan with one person are expected to land here. All returnees were to be referred to Quarantine Centres (QCs), managed by the Tri-Services upon their arrival after formalities at the airport.

As of yesterday morning (7), 6,879 persons in 67 Tri-Service-managed Quarantine Centres were still in quarantine. On Monday (6), 14,125 PCR tests were carried out.
