Army Commander Inspects Readiness of Emergency Fleet & Troops against Cyclonic Impact

Making a quick visit to the heavy vehicle yard in one corner of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-Wanni) complex, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this morning (2) received an update on the availability of most essential logistics, Army-produced Unicorn buffels, mechanized infantry vehicles, towing vehicles, backhoes and all other accessories and equipment, needed for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in the event of any imminent cyclonic emergency that would sweep across Kokilai, Vavuniya and the Wanni region after its entry into Wanni and Mullaittivu regions across Trincomalee.

Speaking to those rapid response troops on standby for any eventual emergencies, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva shared a few thoughts with them and motivated them highlighting the noble nature of their would-be emergency preparations, a great national service. Taking a close look at the vehicles and equipment, ready for any emergency mission, he instructed those troops to take maximum possible precautionary measures for their own safety when engaged in any imminent SAR operations since areas or terrains could be foreign to them.

The day's protagonist commended emergency preparations of the SFHQ-Wanni in place. The primary goal of combined SAR operations is largely meant to minimize loss of life, injury, and property loss and damage to own SAR teams, optimize use of resources in conducting SAR and implement correct decisions and actions when faced with a distress situation.
