Advisory for rough seas and strong wind issued

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center has issued a warning of rough sea and strong wind for Eastern-Northern Land and Sea areas.

According to the warning issued, "the cyclonic storm ‘BUREVI’ over Gulf of Mannar has weakend into a Deep depression and located about 143 km to the west-northwest of Mannar around 5.30 a.m today. It is moving further away from the country."

Wind speed will be (55-65) kmph and wind speed can increase up to 75 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai. The deep and shallow-sea areas off the
coast extending from Puttalam to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai can be very rough at times.

Therefore Naval units and fishing communities have been asked to be vigilant in this regard.
