Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekulawela remanded a suspect who allegedly had connections with the National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) group, which is responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks in 2019, until November 20 when he was produced before Court on Friday.
The suspect has been under the custody of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on detention orders following his arrest by the Kaththankudi Police.
The suspect, Ahamed Mohamed Safras (24) of Jambugoda, Thakkiya Road, Galle, was arrested by Kaththankudi police on April 28, 2019 under Prevention of Terrorism Temporary Provisions Act No. 48 of 1979 and handed over to the CID.
Following investigations, the CID detected a bundle of leaflets detrimental to inter-religious harmony at his residence.
The CID then obtained detention orders to keep him under the custody for further investigations. The CID told Court that investigations into the software of his laptop and his manuscripts were going on.
The suspect had been over one and a half years under the CID custody.
